FSC has made very tangible steps forward on gender through its adoption – in 2015 – of Criterion 2.2 in the new FSC Principles and Criteria (P&C V5-2 EN); which commits FSC to promoting Gender Equality in its work. Criterion 2.2 is articulated through nine indicators designed to enhance the consistency of the implementation of gender equality in all standards of the FSC system.

In Tuesday’s FSC General Assembly programme were two sessions focusing on controlled wood (CW), including – in the morning – a session on the CW Strategy. This was organised as a ‘fish bowl’ event in which six speakers gave their personal thoughts about the future of controlled wood; with their contributions structured around several questions posed by the facilitator.

Monday morning’s session at the FSC General Assembly Can CBs deliver independent audits? raised important issues and described risks associated with FSC auditing; for example, increased price competition leading to undesirable outcomes such as less evaluation effort, softened non-conformity outcomes, and incentives to maintain audit relationships.
