FSC certification develops fast in the world of packaging: Last year, Tetra Pak's FSC-labeled cartons reached 200 million on the global market.
That may have seemed quite impressive enough in 2008. But during the next 12 months, the company expects to send out more than 1.5 billion FSC-certified beverage packages on the UK and Irish markets alone. That's about 25 FSC-labeled packs per citizen in the two countries.
Tetra Pak and major UK suppliers of milk and juice - such as Princes, Ribena, Rubicon and Moo - are launching a massive-scale rollout of FSC-labeled beverage packages available at retailers in the UK and Ireland within the next 12 months.
The move comes as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to increase its supply of FSC-certified packages and builds upon their successful launch of an FSC-certified Tetra Recart™ range for Sainsbury’s chopped tomatoes in late 2007. Earlier this year also saw Innocent launching the FSC logo across all its kids smoothie packs in Tetra Wedge Aseptic™.
Said Julia Young, WWF-UK: "We applaud Tetra Pak's comprehensive commitment to move their cartons to FSC sourced materials. This is a positive step to make sure that every-day consumption is reducing its impact on the forests of the world, and supporting a more sustainable pattern to the way we lead our lives".
Long-term commitment to responsible paper sourcing
Tetra Pak is among the world’s leading cardboard food and beverage packaging suppliers. The company is well known among the FSC community for its long-term commitment and support to FSC and the company's active engagement with the Forest Stewardship Council.
The ultimate goal of Tetra Pak is that all of the paper products contained in the company's packages will be FSC-certified. All European mills supplying cardboard for Tetra Pak's cartons hold FSC chain of custody certification.
