TV remains one of the most powerful ways of spreading your message, and now FSC has an ally in Brazilian TV: The host of the popular music show entitled “Señor Brazil” Rolando Boldrin has pioneered the world’s first FSC certification of a set for a TV show.
The Rainforest Alliance recently awarded FSC project certification to the set used for “Señor Brazil”.
On 5 May 2012, over 10 million viewers watched as the host Rolando Boldrin proudly presented the beautiful certified set made from tropical Brazilian timber:
“Concern about the environment is growing worldwide and pioneering this sort of project is an honor. My heart goes out to the singers who have for a long time been denouncing forest destruction”.
The programme also featured footage from the certified forest from where the wood used for the construction of the set originated, e.g. Sumauna plywood from the Brazilian Amazon.
The project was developed by Señor Brasil producer and set designer, Patrícia Maia Boldrin, and the FSC asesssment was carried out by the Brazilian NGO Imaflora on behalf of the Rainforest Alliance.
Imaflora’s certification coordinator Daniele Rua explains that the project is probably a world’s first: “We haven’t heard of other similar projects. But the model used for this project can easily be replicated for certification of other sets used for television, theatres and other purposes”.
The Señor Brasil show is dedicated to showcase authentic Brazilian culture expressions, and is created and hosted by Rolando Boldrin. The show has been on air since 2005, every Thursday at 10 PM.
