Participants learnt what the requirements of the regulation are and how they had been implemented and enforced so far, they also gain an understanding of due diligence and how to use NEPCon’s tools to conduct your own. Guest speakers were also present to give different perspectives and experiences. The afternoon session involved an interactive session using NEPCon’s new Sourcing Hub and the risk assessments and tools available on it to investigate and discuss various sourcing scenarios across a series of themes.

Kathrin Bock is an examiner at the Federal Institute for Agriculture and Food. Since 2013, she has been working with the EUTR. Their main focus has been on companies in the field of furniture and paper products. |
Michael Kutschke - Lead Auditor, NEPCon
Michael has a professional background in forestry. He has worked in several state enterprises doing forest inventories. He went for 1 year to New Zealand to work in a forest research company in addition to a reforestation program. He also participated in a project related to GPS logging in Norway. Since he studied he wanted to work with certification projects. Michael is the main NEPCon contact for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. He is mainly doing FSC and PEFC chain of custody auditing in addition to support related to the EU-timber regulation. |
Alexandra Banks - Senior Forest Legality Specialist, NEPCon
Alexandra has several years of experience on international forest policy and international trade regulation. Over the last 3.5 years Alexandra has worked with NEPCon LegalSource clients and legality projects. Alexandra has extensive project experience in the Asia-Pacific, in particular Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. Working in particular on VPA and EUTR related projects. Before joining NEPCon Alexandra worked as a senior Policy adviser in the Australian Government on the Australian Illegal Logging Prohibition Act 2012. |
Ditte Steffensen - Forest Legality Specialist, NEPCon
Ditte has worked with forest certification and legality for NEPCon for 3 years. She works primarily with NEPCon legality projects and has experience with the evaluating and setting up Due Diligence Systems. Ditte is FSC and PEFC Chain of Custody lead auditor, as well as Lead auditor in NEPCons LegalSource Certification Programme. She has participated in LegalSource services in Denmark, as well as forest legality audits in Malaysia and Indonesia. |

This workshop was conducted as part of the joint project ‘Supporting Legal Timber Trade’ aimed at supporting timber-related companies in Europe with knowledge, tools and training in the requirements of the EU Timber Regulation. Knowing your timber’s origin is not only good for the forests, but good for business. The joint project was funded by the EU LIFE programme and UK aid from the UK government.
